Butler Counties unemployment rate jumps to 9.5%

After two months of decreases in unemployment after state officials said more people gave up the search for work, jobless rates have begun to trend upward as residents renew the hunt in the midst of holiday hiring.

  1. I think that this year at department stores they are not hiring too much extra help like they usually do around the holiday season. The sales are really not too good this year so the stores feel like: 1) they dont need the extra help. and 2) They probably cant afford the extra holiday help anyway. Since the holiday sales are not really up this year, i dont think they need help, but if they hired more people it would help the unemployment rate go down so it would help the economy.

  2. Its a good thing that people are starting to find jobs for the holidays. This hopefully will help stimulate the economy.

  3. I hate to see that unemployment is not decreasing. At this time of year, many people can usually find a seasonal job at a department store, but i do not think as many people are hiring with the economy the way that it is.

  4. I thought that this time of year would help unemployment with all of the seasonal jobs. I'm surprised to find out that it isn't the case. It doesn't seem like there is a lot of holiday spending this year. I wonder how the economy will do after this holiday season.

  5. I agree. I also expected for more people to have jobs because of the holidays.. but that isn't so.

  6. The problem with holiday jobs is just that... They will only last until the holidays are over then everyone will be layed off again and unemployment goes higher again.
